Boris Kusnezow and Byol Kang (both born 1985) formed their Duo in 2009 after both winning first prize in their instrument categories at the German Music Competition in Berlin. The prize included appearances in the 54th national series of Young Artists’ Concerts, which enabled them rapidly to build up and frequently perform a wide range of repertoire.
Following their debut at Carnegie (Weill Hall), the New York Times praised them as ‘an apt pairing’ and they have been further commended for their ‘natural way of musical dialogue with masterly, elegant style’. As a Duo they have enriched their music-making with guidance from Antje Weithaas, Christian Tetzlaff, Bernd Goetzke, Jan Philip Schulze and Markus Becker. They are further supported by the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben Hamburg.
The Duo has made numerous recordings for national radio including WDR, NDR, SWR and Deutschlandradio. Their debut CD was released in June 2010 on the GENUIN label. Concerts lead them to major halls, such as NDR Radio Hall Hannover, Tonhalle Düsseldorf, Konzerthaus Wien and the Berlin Philharmonie.
The Duo Kang-Kusnezow received a Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship in February 2012.
To have been chosen to be part of the BBT family is a very special honour to us. The personal guidance and generous financial support allows us in a very important stage of development to fully concentrate on our artistic goals. We are so grateful for this fortune and are looking forward to further realise our ideas accompanied by the advice of the experienced BBT team.
