Dimitri Maslennikov - Biography

Dimitri Maslennikov was born in St Petersburg and divided his musical education between Russia and France. At twelve years old, he won the international young soloists contest in Moscow and the Czech international contest Concertino Praha in 1992. At this time he undertook his first tour as solo cellist of the Moscow Soloists conducted by Yuri Bashmet at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris and in Vatican. He also won the Rostropovitch and Tchaikovsky Awards. In 1994, he received a three- year scholarship from the French government in order to study at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris where he was award a unanimous First Prize for his final examination. Since 1997, Dimitri Maslennikov has taken part Nouveaux Virtuoses programme in France. Subsequently he has performed in Belgium, Geneva, at the UNO in New York and in England where he played for Queen Elizabeth II. He has been invited to play in many European festivals including Schleswig-Holstein in Germany with Christoph Eschenbach, Colmar in France, Verbier in Switzerland, Ravinia and Arcady in the United States and at Suntory Hall in Japan. Among his important concerts in 2004 was his Ravinia Music Festival recital with Jonathan Benichou. At the same festival, he played Shostakovitch’s First Cello Concerto with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra conducted by Christoph Eschenbach and the Tchaikovsky Rococo Variations with the Orchestre de Paris conducted by Klaus Peter Flor. In 2005, he performed with the NDR, Hamburg, the Philadelphia and Chicago symphony orchestras and the Paris Chamber Orchestra as well as performing chamber music throughout France. In 2006 he performed again with the Philadelphia Symphony and record the two Shostakovitch Cello Concertos with NDR, Hamburg and Christoph Eschenbach.
