We have received many prizes and awards in the past, but BBT offers a very unusual and most unique support to musicians. There are many competitions for young people but not too many seem to care about artists in their thirties. BBT has already helped us in commissioning a concerto for two guitars by Michael Berkeley and we are receiving tremendous support with our new projects. Without their help we could not have bought new instruments and developing and promoting new ideas would not be possible. They offer the most important support (and hopefully) the final push, that is necessary to transform us from talented to well-respected and fully-established artists.
“The Katona Twins share not only a staggering virtuoso technique but rather eerie powers of ensemble. Identical not only in good looks, but in their playing style and charming stage manner, Peter and Zoltan know how to make a good show” (The Times). Hungarian by birth but based in the UK, the Katona Twins regularly perform in major concert venues throughout the world and also with leading orchestras and world class ensembles. Their widely varied repertoire effortlessly transfers from strictly classical to more popular musical genres and includes their own compositions and works written for, and dedicated to, them.
BBT supported the commissioning of a Double Guitar Concerto written for the Katonas by Michael Berkeley who was both intrigued and inspired by their intuitive synchronous playing and wrote for the two instruments as one voice. (This synchronicity was also captured on a BBT Artist profile film). For several years after this premiere at the Cheltenham Music Festival in 2004, BBT continued to support the twins in their exploration of new projects as well as more practical needs such as the purchase of electrical and classical guitars and video and recording equipment.
Peter and Zoltan were supported with a BBT Award between 2004 and 2008.
