Being awarded a grant by BBT was the most amazing, positive experience. To have such faith placed in my ability was hugely career-affirming, and being able to draw on a wealth of experience from such a fantastic organisation has allowed me to develop an even greater understanding and appreciation for this profession.
Widely praised for his lyrical voice, intelligent musicianship and noble stage presence, Alessandro Fisher brings passion, commitment and a quest for perfection to all his performances, making him a welcome guest at leading opera houses, festivals and recital halls in the UK and Europe. With an Italian opera singer and teacher for a mother, Alessandro grew up in a London household full of music and language and read Italian and German at Cambridge before obtaining his Masters in Vocal Studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. His love for languages and communication are at the focus of his work as a performer and he also enjoys coaching in the firm belief that all singers can further enhance their performances with a deeper understanding of linguistic style and meaning.
Alessandro’s wide-ranging musical interests and innate curiosity about song repertoire led him to curate a recital programme recorded at London’s Wigmore Hall, resulting in his highly acclaimed debut album, A Gardener’s World, released on the Rubicon Classics label. Focussing his BBT funding to support two recording projects, Alessandro’s first disc featured flower-themed songs spanning both the world and the centuries, from the likes of Schumann and Sibelius to Poulenc and Guastavino. He heads back into the studio in 2025, to record a follow-up disc, again for Rubicon, which is due for release in 2026.
Alessandro has been supported with a BBT Fellowship since 2022.
