The Borletti-Buitoni Trust, to me, opens all doors. The award not only provides significant financial support but access to dedicated advisors and mentors who help winners identify and realize their artistic goals. BBT offers endless possibilities for young artists.
American violinist Benjamin Beilman continues to grow his international reputation, not only in standard repertoire, but also by championing new works specially written for him by the likes of Frederic Rzewski and Gabriela Smith. The Times has praised Benjamin’s “handsome technique, burnished sound and quiet confidence”. As well as his ongoing solo career he returned to his alma mater, Philadelphia’s Curtis Institute of Music, as one of the youngest artists to be appointed to the Institute’s faculty as teacher.
Like many string players, Benjamin was able to use some of his BBT Fellowship to purchase a new bow, as well as commission new photographs. He was also supported in the recording of his debut disc for Warner Classics, Spectrum, with pianist Yekwon Sunwoo, featuring sonatas by Schubert and Janáček.
Benjamin was supported with a BBT Fellowship between 2014 and 2016.
