David Cohen - About

I am very happy and privileged to have received the Fellowship from BBT. This award will be a significant help towards financing my studies and much more. I would like to thank all concerned at BBT for all the help, support and encouragement given to me.

David Cohen (2005)

The successful career of Belgian-born cellist David Cohen has been something of a musical odyssey, all of which is testament to his virtuosity, versatility and adventurous spirit. As well as building a busy international solo career performing with many of the world’s leading orchestras and distinguished conductors, he has also been the founder of notable European chamber ensembles and festivals. In 2001 the Philharmonia appointed him as its youngest ever Principal Cello (he was 19) and in 2022 he became principal cellist of the London Symphony Orchestra.

Back in 2004 BBT funded David’s additional study costs and helped him with the purchase of a new bow. A BBT Artist profile film was also made, which includes heartwarming footage of David as a nine-year old cellist already displaying his huge future potential.

David was supported with a BBT Fellowship between 2004 and 2005.
