BBT is a bit like a second family in giving advice and guidance to me as a developing artist. They have been so helpful in shepherding me and working to achieve my chosen project and have done so with great personal care and professional experience. I feel blessed to have been selected as a BBT artist.
Soprano Elena Xanthoudakis continues to thrill audiences worldwide, particularly in her native Australia. Her repertoire extends beyond her beloved bel canto to encompass Handel and Mozart through to Philip Glass, via Puccini and Poulenc.
Elena’s BBT Award covered travel costs to attend auditions and BBT also organised a fundraising concert in London. Playing to her bel canto strengths, she teamed up with the Northern Sinfonia and fellow Australian, conductor Richard Bonynge, to record Jewels of the Bel Canto for Signum Classics. As well as supporting the cost of the recording, BBT was also on hand to film the recording sessions in Sage Gateshead (now the Glasshouse) for a straight-talking artist profile film.
Elena was supported with a BBT Award between 2011 and 2014.
