Being with the BBT gives us the opportunity and support to realise our most ambitious dreams. With their fantastic team to nurture and guide us we now have the confidence to take these projects further. The financial support of the award allows us only to worry about the music … surely every musician’s fantasy.
The Elias String Quartet is celebrated for its deep musical understanding and assured performances, which have earned the ensemble an international following and regular tours around Europe and the US. An ability to convey profound musical meaning, especially across entire quartet cycles, has made the Quartet a fixture in the most prestigious concert halls and festivals.
With BBT on board, the Elias quartet embarked on one of the most demanding of all musical journeys – the complete Beethoven quartets, a body of work that encompasses the greatest development in composition. BBT wholeheartedly supported their creation of a dedicated, interactive website – thebeethovenproject.com – that traced the success of their live performances and recordings and also provided insight into their experiences, discoveries and analysis of these masterworks by way of video diaries, podcasts, blogs, interviews and programme notes. This ambitiously innovative project not only provided a lasting legacy, but is also proof of their generosity and commitment to engaging with their audiences in the broadest possible way.
BBT also helped with concert clothing and publicity materials, and invited the Quartet to participate in the BBT 10th anniversary weekend at London’s Southbank Centre in 2013, and also a special concert in Perugia in 2018 with BBT alumni Zoltán Fejévári and Anna Lucia Richter to celebrate BBT’s 15th anniversary.
Elias String Quartet was supported with a BBT Award between 2010 and 2017.
