In the most complicated year in recent times, the support of BBT gave me focus and a purpose, concentrating all my energy on the artistic project that we are building together. This could never have been possible without them and their deep faith in me. Their commitment to making my ideas come to life is the biggest encouragement I have received in recent years.
BBT’s first impression of Italian pianist Filippo Gorini was that he is a deep thinker who also possesses imagination, ambition and commitment – qualities that have driven him to all corners of the world (including remote ones) to share his passion for music. Little did BBT know how far-reaching the seed money for his project, Bach: The Art of Fugue Explored would take him. With enthusiastic encouragement as well as funds for this project, BBT supported a recording (Alpha Classics); a launch recital (despite lockdown) filmed in an extraordinary venue in Turin; a dedicated project website; and an ambitious documentary film series, based on his interviews with intellectuals and luminaries from numerous different disciplines throughout the world about Bach’s influence on their life and work.
Filippo’s ability to forge such strong partnerships with other dynamic facilitators in film, digital technology, education and philanthropy also led to the 2023 Franco Buitoni Award for his Sonata for 7 Cities project, a globe-trotting series that sets out to rewrite the rules of international concert giving. Launched in Vienna in Spring 2025, Gorini is spending the minimum of a month each in seven world cities, not only giving concerto and solo recitals, but also offering masterclasses and concerts to disadvantaged communities. For Filippo, this slowed-down approach is a win-win for everyone – beneficial for the environment, the artist and the community. All of this in addition to a regular round of recitals, chamber music and concerto appearances at celebrated festivals and prestigious concert halls around the world.
Filippo also participated in BBT’s 20th anniversary celebrations at London’s Wigmore Hall.
Filippo was supported with a BBT Award between 2020 and 2024 and the Franco Buitoni Award 2023.
