First of all I would like to say how happy I am to be part of the BBT family. I say family because I really feel I am part of a background, where people invest much energy to support young people artistically and as human beings. Very important to me is the fact that there is no feeling of competition, only professional advice about how to use the fund and helpful discussions on how to plan my future as a musician and as a person. This is real idealism and I believe that the Trust represents one of those few examples of non-profit mentality, which nowadays seem so rare
Swiss-Italian pianist Francesco Piemontesi is recognised as one of the leading interpreters of the German classical and romantic repertoire. He appears as a regular guest with many leading orchestras in concert halls and music festivals around the globe. His playing is characterised by sensitivity, intimacy and poetry, but also by power and brilliance.
Working with fellow musicians and orchestras alike, Francesco Piemontesi’s collaborations form themselves from the nucleus of friendship, appreciation and creativity. He has developed strong relationships with concert halls, orchestras and organisations, several of which have invited him to perform regular series of performances.
Francesco used his BBT award to address such essential needs as a new piano bench and help towards the purchase of a Steinway piano. And, as well as arranging a London showcase concert, BBT also supported a recording of intimate Baroque masterpieces by Bach and Handel and the transcriptions they inspired by Brahms and Liszt, entitled Recital (Avanti Classic).
Francesco was supported with a BBT Fellowship between 2009 and 2011.
