Itamar Zorman - About

The great thing about BBT is that its support encompasses both the practical side and the artistic side of growing as a musician. On the practical side, having the funds to make career-related expenses is crucial at this point, as I need to develop my professional profile and connections in the music world. On the artistic side, being able to work on projects that are very close to my heart, and having the advice of such experienced staff, triggers my imagination, makes me understand what things are particularly important for me in music, and hopefully would help create something meaningful for other people as well. Also, through witnessing how BBT works I have gained better understanding of how the music world operates, which will help me in future endeavours as well. My sincere thanks to the BBT staff for their hard work!

Itamar Zorman (2015)

Tel Aviv-born Itamar Zorman continues to champion both classic and new repertoire across the world. Known for his soulful music making – “precisely the right mix of tenderness, agitation and spiritual succour” (New York Times), Itamar not only pursues a solo career, but also teaches and is a member of the Lysander Piano Trio.

Itamar devoted his BBT Award to supporting two recordings. The first, Evocation, focused on the violin music – both orchestral and instrumental – of Paul Ben-Haim. Recorded in Cardiff with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales under Philippe Bach, and with pianist Amy Yang, the album was released on the BIS label and BBT was there to film the recording sessions.

A second recording project, his debut on the First Hand records label, was born out of the vicissitudes of the global pandemic. Violin Odyssey features little-known rarely performed repertoire from his virtual voyages of discovery during lockdown, and the far-reaching geographical origins of the repertoire – from New Zealand to the United States by way of Sudan, China, Russia and Mexico – reveal a cultural diversity that conjures up colourful stories of native lands and migration. Both albums were internationally critically acclaimed.

Itamar also appeared in BBT’s 20th anniversary celebrations at London’s Wigmore Hall.

Itamar was supported with a BBT Award between 2014 and 2023.
