It was a great honour and privilege to have been awarded a BBT fellowship. I couldn’t believe that I was joining such a family of wonderful artists! My plans are still hatching, but we are so fortunate to have such a great organisation and team behind you every step of the way! Thank you BBT!
South African pianist James Baillieu is a favourite recital partner for many of today’s top singers and is a regular performer at leading chamber venues and festivals across Europe. Also renowned for his programming skill, London’s Wigmore Hall was in the midst of honouring him at the time of his BBT Fellowship with a personally-curated 11-concert series, Introducing James Baillieu. James’ BBT funding helped to commission Lorne ys my liking from Nico Muhly, which was given its first performance within his Wigmore series, and firmly supported his ongoing mission to bring the traditions of Lieder into the 21st century. A film crew was on hand to film the performance, featuring countertenor Iestyn Davies and fellow BBT alumnus Allan Clayton, as one of three BBT-supported films about James’ Wigmore series, the others featuring mezzo-soprano Jamie Barton and fellow BBT ensemble, Heath Quartet. James regularly appears with other BBT alumni including Allan Clayton, Henk Neven and Adam Walker.
James was supported with a BBT Fellowship between 2012 and 2016.
