James Baillieu - Video

INTRODUCING JAMES BAILLIEU III

At one with the piano - a singer’s view of her pianist partner

BBT Fellowship winner in 2012, pianist James Baillieu is the focus of a season-long series of concerts at London’s Wigmore Hall, 2015-2016.  Appearing with vocal and instrumental collaborators as well as formulating wide-ranging programmes, the series is also being documented on film by TallWall Media, supported by BBT. In this third installment James partners American mezzo Jamie Barton for her Wigmore debut.  She enthuses about working with James and gives an interesting insight into how they built the recital programme and it’s interesting repertoire: Charles Ives, Antonín Dvořák, Johannes Brahms, Joaquín Turina and Jan Sibelius.

INTRODUCING JAMES BAILLIEU I

View from the Piano - Song is the main thrust of my career

BBT Fellowship winner in 2012, pianist James Baillieu is the focus of a season-long series of concerts at London’s Wigmore Hall, 2015-2016.  Appearing with vocal and instrumental collaborators as well as formulating wide-ranging programmes, the series is also being documented on film by TallWall Media, supported by BBT.  In this first film, James – joined by regular partners countertenor Iestyn Davies and fellow-BBT artist, tenor Allan Clayton – prepares for the world premiere of Nico Muhly’s Lorne ys my liking in December 2015, which James commissioned with funds from BBT, Wigmore Hall and others.

VOCALISED TALENT

Adam Walker in profile

He sings with his flute” is how pianist James Baillieu sums up Adam Walker. In this film he modestly talks about his journey from innately talented nine-year-old at Chetham’s School of Music to principal flute at London Symphony Orchestra at the age of 21. His BBT award has enabled him to record his first recital CD – Vocalise on the Opus Arte label with pianist Baillieu, released April 2013 – and also commission a new flute concerto from the much admired composer Huw Watkins, to be premiered with co-commissioner LSO, conducted by Daniel Harding, on 23 February 2014.
