BBT seemed too good to be true when I was told about it by other musicians and read about it on the internet. I have spent part of my BBT Fellowship on making a website, which was a very creative and ongoing process for which I am still receiving support and guidance from BBT. I am so honoured to be a part of this alumni of musicians and I know I always have someone to approach to get advice and guidance. With endless thanks to the incredible generosity of Ilaria and Franco Borletti-Buitoni and the BBT team.
Described by the New York Times as “a musician of great technical prowess, intellectual curiosity and expressive depth”, German cellist Leonard Elschenbroich plays as a soloist with the world’s leading orchestras and conductors. Also a committed performer of contemporary music, Leonard has commissioned several new works from composers, including a cello concerto from BBT alumnus Mark Simpson. He also co-founded the Orquesta Filarmonica de Bolivia in 2012 which opened the door to conducting – a role he developed throughout Latin America and beyond.
Leonard’s BBT award covered a wide range of career-building necessities, such as the creation of a new website, a London showcase concert and the additional funds required to complete the purchase a new bow by Jean “Grand” Adam from 1850 for his treasured cello. BBT also supported his highly praised second album with Onyx Classics – a pairing of Kabalevsky and Prokofiev cello concertos.
Leonard was supported with a BBT Fellowship between 2008 and 2011.
