American soprano Lucy Fitz Gibbon is a graduate of Yale University, holds an artist diploma from the Glenn Gould School and a Masters from Bard College Conservatory where she now serves on the faculty. She is noted for her engaging performances and “dazzling virtuoso singing” (Boston Globe) and believes that creating new works, and recreating those lost in centuries past, makes room for the diversity of voices integral to classical music’s future. She has given modern premieres of rediscovered pieces from Baroque to the mid-20th century and revels in collaborative projects – one of her frequent collaborators is BBT alumnus Alexi Kenney – and the thrill of inhabiting new music and expressing the symbiosis of words and music to her audiences. Lucy frequently appears in major recital halls and at prestigious chamber music festivals throughout North America. She recently debuted in China at Shangyin Opera House and is looking forward to developing a higher profile in Europe.
Lucy has ambitious plans for her BBT Fellowship funding, and one project – a co-commission with West Cork Music of Deirdre Gribbin’s song cycle When you think you’re looking – has already been given its world premiere at the West Cork Chamber Music Festival in July 2025. An interactive audiovisual recording project and a movement-led touring performance project are in the pipeline, as are plans to bring another recent co-commission to European concert hall stages over the next seasons.
Lucy has been supported with a BBT Fellowship since 2024.
