The simplicity of being a great musician. In BBT’s earlier film on supporting young musicians, Mitsuko Uchida decreed that talent needs to be accompanied by charisma, intelligence and a little bit of luck to make a successful career as a musician. In this film Anne-Sophie Mutter seconds this view – “everything you are as a person is in your playing” – and young German cellist, Maximilian Hornung, embodies every attribute. Depth of character is the key and his message is profoundly simple: to make good music, with good people, never lose the fun and always go to the edge.
With thanks to Anne-Sophie Mutter, Bernard Haitink, Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and Kulturgemeinde Wangen. Filmed in Munich and Wangen im Allgäu by Graham Johnston for Borletti-Buitoni Trust.
