Navarra Quartet - About

The BBT Fellowship has enabled us to pursue our artistic goals with freedom and integrity by providing us with vital support both personally and financially. At an imperative time in our careers we have benefitted from the huge amount of knowledge and experience of those at BBT and the great artists attached to it. This unique support is truly a gift which continues to nourish our development.

Navarra Quartet (2008)

Formed in 2002, the Navarra Quartet has built an international reputation as one of the most dynamic and poetic string quartets of today. The Quartet has appeared in leading venues and music festivals throughout Europe, as well as further afield in the US, China, Korea, Australia and the Middle East.

The Navarras produced several acclaimed recordings, the first of which was supported by their BBT Fellowship – Haydn’s seminal Seven Last Words of Christ on the Cross. More than just a recording (on the Altara label), the project included the commissioning of a series of vibrantly colourful paintings by artist Jamie Boyd which, projected as images on a screen, provided another dimension to the spirituality of the music in live performances, the first of which was also captured on a BBT film.

Practical needs, such as concert clothes, coaching, travel costs and website design were also supported by BBT and the Quartet attended the Verbier Festival Academy as part of BBT’s support of its Chamber Music Programme from 2006 to 2009.

Navarra Quartet was supported with a BBT Fellowship between 2007 and 2011.
