If we look to history, many artists needed support for realisation of their vision. Without support dreams would be hard to realise. We are very grateful that BBT continues in this historical line and gives us and many others this opportunity.
The Pavel Haas Quartet is firmly established as one of the world’s foremost chamber ensembles and is renowned for its richness of timbre, infectious passion and intuitive rapport. Revered in their homeland, they are ambassadors for Czech music and culture around the globe and regularly perform at the world’s most hallowed concert halls and prestigious festivals.
The Pavel Haas Quartet is signed exclusively to Supraphon and has won many awards for its recordings, including no fewer than five Gramophone Awards. A Special Ensemble Scholarship from BBT recognised the Quartet’s unique talent and helped them buy new bows, as well support two more important landmarks along their career path – another recording and a commission. Their album of Dvořák’s most popular chamber repertoire won great acclaim: “Their account of the American Quartet belongs alongside the greatest performances on disc. In this repertoire, they are simply matchless today” (Sunday Times). A Quintet for two violins, viola, cello and marimba was written for Pavel Haas Quartet and BBT alumnus Colin Currie by Jiří Gemrot and was premiered in Cologne in 2014.
Pavel Haas Quartet was supported with a BBT Special Ensemble Scholarship between 2010 and 2014.
