Royal String Quartet - About

It was one of the most significant events in our musical career to receive the BBT Fellowship. One of the most important things is that it gives us freedom in planning the third edition of our own Chamber Music Festival Kwartesencja in Warsaw as there may be not enough budget from sponsors in Poland in time. The other thing – very important indeed – is the fact that the Trust announces the winners to hundreds of promoters and to the press, and gives first class PR. It is really extraordinary because it introduces us to a huge public all over the world and opens many doors.

Royal String Quartet (2006)

Established in 1998, the Royal String Quartet performs at famed festivals and concert halls throughout the world, as well as in its homeland where it is recognised as a true ambassador for Polish music and culture and also a champion of contemporary music. With never a change of personnel, its exuberance, artistic ingenuity, penchant for exploration and openness to new challenges are unceasing in the realms of both live performance and recordings. Mentored by the Amadeus and Alban Berg Quartets, they have also collaborated with many of the world’s leading instrumentalists, ensembles and singers.

As well as indispensable practical support, including new photographs and website, further studies and new instrument cases and repairs, BBT also stepped up to ensure the continuance of the Quartet’s own Chamber Music Festival Kwartesencja in its third year and sent the BBT film crew to Poland to capture the atmosphere and excitement too. Still going strong nearly 20 years on, it is one of Warsaw’s most important annual music events with its sometimes surprising, sometimes uncanny, mix of classical and contemporary music soundworlds.

Royal String Quartet was supported with a BBT Fellowship between 2005 and 2008.
