Sean Shibe - About

Since receiving a BBT Fellowship in February 2012 I have noticeably felt my career developing. I have received opportunities that I know would not have come about without the weight of the reputation of the Trust’s support, but also been helped vastly. The help was not only in terms of the financial freedom to move in any musical direction, but more importantly in the advice given me by the BBT Team. Thanks!

Sean Shibe (2013)

Rewriting the rules of what the guitar can do, Scottish-Japanese guitarist Sean Shibe has taken the musical world by storm.  Whether on acoustic or electric guitar, whether in baroque repertoire or in new commissions, Sean holds audiences spellbound. He’s also one of those collaborative musicians, not least with the likes of fellow BBT alumni Ema Nikolovska and Adam Walker, who can collectively pull remarkable performances out of a hat. Both in the recording studio and on the concert platform, he is always one to watch.

Sean’s BBT Fellowship saw him take part in a number of live performances: showcase concerts in London and at an IAMA Conference in Budapest, as well as a further fundraising concert in London to raise funds towards the purchase of a Simplicio guitar, to which Sean’s Fellowship also contributed. Sean featured twice in BBT’s Wednesdays at Wilton’s series, and also appeared with Ema Nikolovska as part of BBT’s 20th anniversary celebrations at London’s Wigmore Hall.

Practicalities, including recording equipment, money to travel abroad, new photographs and new concert clothes were also covered, as was the production of a showcase sampler CD of works by Johann Sebastian Bach and Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco.

Sean was supported with a BBT Fellowship between 2012 and 2015.
