On the second day of BBT’s 20th anniversary weekend at Wigmore Hall in June 2023, the morning coffee concert was devoted to Bach, sometimes with unusual instrumental timbres. What would Bach of thought of movements from his Third Cello Suite played on the marimba? I’m sure he would have loved it in Simone Rubino’s mesmeric performance. Simone also performed with Multi-Story Orchestra at Bold Tendencies as part of the weekend, and was present at the UK première screening of his film Il Ritmo della Terra, performing Lamberto Cortini’s chamber score for strings, percussion and voice, now available on First Hand Records for download and streaming.
Lamberto Cortini’s Il Ritmo della Terra (The Rhythm of the Earth) was commissioned by Borletti-Buitoni Trust for Simone Rubino. Live Music Now München produced a sumptuous film of the chamber work for small string ensemble and percussionists, headed by Curtoni on solo cello and percussionist Simone Rubino, who also sings. In this short documentary (in German), the contributors introduce the film that will be available to stream and download from 16 June, released by First Hand Records, which also releases an audio only version with extra tracks. Revel in the beauty of the images of the earth and Curtoni’s musical imagination.
A sneak preview of Lamberto Curtoni’s Il Ritmo della Terra (Rhythm of the Earth), filmed on location in Bavaria, and featuring Simone Rubino both as percussionist and vocalist, as well as fellow percussionists and a string ensemble which includes Curtoni himself on the cello. Originally made for Live Music Now Germany, the full film will be released later this year as both a video and audio for streaming and download by First Hand Records, after the film has its UK public premiere as part of BBT’s 20th anniversary celebrations at Wigmore Hall on 11 June 2023.
