Sivan Magen - About

The support BBT offers is incomparable to any other foundation I know, as it doesn’t only present its winners with a sum of money, but it also offers us the benefit of the invaluable experience of its staff, a connection to some of the most illustrious members of the music world and a place in a close-knit family of artist-colleagues and friends. I feel most lucky to have deserved this Trust, and am looking forward to our journey together.

Sivan Magen (2013)

Israeli harpist Sivan Magen has done it all in service to his instrument. Whether as soloist, co-founder of the Israeli Chamber Project and Trio Te Voci, principal harpist of the Finnish Radio Symphony (and guesting with orchestras worldwide), or as teacher – at both Paris Conservatoire and Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin – Sivan’s touch ensures quality. In both the recording studio and on the concert platform, Sivan’s wide repertoire, including world premieres, makes for intriguing and satisfying concerts.

It was mainly recordings that Sivan prioritised with his BBT Award. Paired with Linn Records, BBT supported two discs: Fantasien featured notable examples from Johann Sebastian Bach to Henriette Renié; and French Reflections focussed on the repertoire of two fin de siècle periods, the turning of the 19th and the 20th centuries.

In addition to new photographs and renovations to his instrument, BBT made an artist profile film about Sivan and helped him to produce three videos featuring repertoire by Chopin and Paul Ben-Haim. And alongside fellow BBT alumni Adam Walker and Timothy Ridout, Sivan also appeared in BBT’s 20th anniversary celebrations at London’s Wigmore Hall.

Sivan was supported with a BBT Award between 2012 and 2018.
