Bringing together 21 BBT artists for a weekend of 20th anniversary celebrations at Wigmore Hall in June 2023, BBT20 highlighted the importance of chamber music. Our first trio brought together flautist Adam Walker, harpist Sivan Magen and violist Timothy Ridout for a performance of Debussy’s exquisite late Sonata for flute, viola and harp. It featured in the first Wigmore concert of the weekend which also included three BBT commissions, two of them being given their European premières.
Sivan Magen takes every opportunity to demonstrate his unerring belief in the harp’s flexibility, powerful expression and dynamic range across a wide repertoire. With support from his 2012 Borletti-Buitoni Award, harpist Sivan Magen has made three showcase films of up-coming repertoire, made by Culinar Videography. These include two of his own transcriptions of Chopin favourites including the ever-popular Minute Waltz Op 64 No 1.

Virtuoso harpist Sivan Magen is a man in love: seduced by the sound of the harp at an early age, he was wedded to the idea of playing it before he even knew what it was. Physical and emotional pleasures are found in the intimacy of touching the strings and embracing an instrument too often under-appreciated or misunderstood. In both his talk and his playing, Magen declares an unerring belief in the harp’s flexibility, powerful expression and dynamic range across a wide repertoire. BBT filmed with Sivan Magen on tour with Scottish Chamber Orchestra in January 2014 and in the recording studio for Linn Records.
