To be brought into the fold of the BBT community and to benefit from the same support and advice that so many remarkable musicians have in the years gone by – and will continue to for generations to come – is a true honour and source of inspiration. With this unique opportunity I am able to work on many projects which would otherwise not be possible at this stage in my career, thereby continuing to grow as an artist.
Of British-Russian heritage, Theodore Platt is one of Britain’s most promising young singers, recognised for his warm baritone voice and powerful stage presence. While gathering several prestigious prizes and awards he has been building an impressive professional career including his tenure at the Bayerische Staatsoper’s Opera Studio and debuts at Glyndebourne Opera Festival and St Gallen Opera House, as well as in many recital halls and concert platforms across Europe including Helsinki, Salzburg, Berlin and London, among others. The 2024/25 season marked a significant milestone in his career when he joined the ensemble of the Copenhagen Opera House which gave him the opportunity to showcase his versatility in several key operatic roles. He was also selected for a recital with Deutsche Grammophon Stage + for online streaming.
To capitalise on his prizewinning recital at the Internationaler Wettbewerb für Liedkunst Stuttgart, Theodore drew upon his BBT Fellowship funding to commission four short studio films from the team at Culiner Creative Circle in Berlin to showcase his operatic and Lieder singing and further promote his growing career. He has also deployed funding to support a range of practical needs, from coaching and concert clothes to a new photoshoot and a website refresh; and plans are in train to explore the co-commissioning of a new song cycle.
Theodore has been supported with a BBT Fellowship since 2022.
