Will Duerden
Double Bass
BBT Fellowship 2024

Will Duerden - About

British double bassist, Will Duerden was a scholar at the Yehudi Menuhin School and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and has multiple awards and prizes to his name in addition to his BBT Fellowship. Will is also a Concert Artists Guild and YCAT Artist which opens doors to performance opportunities across the world. He is fast building an international career as a soloist, chamber musician and orchestral leader – he is Principal Double Bass at Northern Sinfonia – and has performed at major venues in the UK and Europe including premieres in London and Milan of several new works written for him. Will has a passion for everything from baroque music to jazz and aims to pursue a performing career encompassing all styles and genres, including commissioning new work for his instrument.

Such commissioning plans sit at the heart of his plans for his BBT Fellowship, as well as more practical considerations such as new strings – at their most expensive for the double bass! – and a new bow commissioned from a favourite luthier in Paris.

Will has been supported with a BBT Fellowship since 2024.
